Claire McNeight

Claire McNeight, writer

Claire McNeight grew up on a ‘fermette’ in rural Quebec, and settled in Vancouver after a brief stint as a copy editor in Toronto. She recently retired from a career in law enforcement, and has many stories to share. She won first prize in the creative non-fiction category of the 2024 Victoria Writers’ Society Contest, with her emotional piece about family and loss, “From the Ashes”. Claire and her husband live on the wild West Coast of Vancouver Island, where they explore local trails and beaches together, in the hope of spotting wildlife.

Time Out Volume 9, Issue 4

Through the sterile ritual of hospital preparations, Claire McNeight reflects on how career devotion transformed from passion to burden, exploring the body’s silent account of stress and the possibility of renewal beyond the relentless buzz of obligation in her brief piece, Time Out.
