Scottish born and proud Canadian immigrant, Irene is a student at U of T’s Creative Writing Program. She is a volunteer writing facilitator with the Toronto Writers Collective. Irene has published in Blank Spaces Magazine, The Toronto Writer’s Co-operative Voices Anthology 2020 and the TWC’s Front Lines, Until the Words Run Pure 2020 anthology. This essay is an excerpt from her memoir in progress, Grief, Love and Loss, in the Time of the Opioid Epidemic written after her son Roger died of a fentanyl overdose in 2017. She is an advocate for Moms Stop the Harm.
