Yelibert Cruz, writer

Yelibert Cruz is a Venezuelan poet and storyteller who grew up in Guelph, Ontario and is currently attending Wilfrid Laurier University. She has been published in Laurier’s Blueprint Magazine. Recently she has been focusing on spoken word poetry and took part in the KWPS Residency, where she successfully competed for a spot on the KWPS slam team. Her artistic works stem from an anti-oppressive lens where she explores the many layers of feminism and body positivity from her unique Latin-Canadian perspective. Yeli can be found on Twitter @ YelibertCruz or on Instagram @ YeliWrites.

Lady MacBeth — Volume 3, Issue 1

Yelibert Cruz shares one piece from her larger collection, Letters to My Oppressor, which is a reworking of soliloquies spoken by women in Shakespeare’s plays, with a feminist twist. Using a “erasure by crowding technique”, where every single letter in the original soliloquy is still a part of the poem and in order but with letters flooded in between to make up the words, Cruz brings us her poem, Lady Macbeth.
