The Pushcart Prize: Best of the Small Presses series, published every year since 1976, is the most honoured literary project in America. They welcome up to six nominations (print or online) from little magazine and small book press editors throughout the world, and selected winners will appear in their annual publication. Leslie Hill taught high school in Toronto for twenty-five years before moving to Scotland to live in the Findhorn Foundation. Back in Canada she landed in Vancouver and obtained a certificate in Creative Writing from Simon Fraser’s the writers studio and an MFA from the Northwest Institute of Literary Arts in Washington. Her memoir, Dressed for Dancing: My Sojourn in the Findhorn Foundation, was one of ten nominees for the Whistler Independent Book Awards and her essays have been published in Pilgrimage, Shark Reef, What I Didn’t Know: True Stories of Becoming A Teacher and the Globe and Mail.
Jennifer Lavallee is a freelance writer and reporter from Alberta. She most often publishes works of non-fiction and flash fiction; however, she is working to make a home in the enchanting world of children’s literature. Tanya MacIntosh holds a BA (Hon) in Creative Writing and Religious Studies from York University. She has lived and studied in Toronto, Quebec City, Jerusalem, and Calgary which is now her home. Her two dogs generously let her and one of her best friends share the house with them.
Fiction writer, poet, and playwright J. J. Steinfeld lives on Prince Edward Island, where he is patiently waiting for Godot’s arrival and a phone call from Kafka. While waiting, he has published eighteen books, including Should the Word Hell Be Capitalized? (Stories, Gaspereau Press), Anton Chekhov Was Never in Charlottetown (Stories, Gaspereau Press), Would You Hide Me? (Stories, Gaspereau Press), Misshapenness (Poetry, Ekstasis Editions), Identity Dreams and Memory Sounds (Poetry, Ekstasis Editions), Madhouses in Heaven, Castles in Hell (Stories, Ekstasis Editions), An Unauthorized Biography of Being (Stories, Ekstasis Editions), and Absurdity, Woe Is Me, Glory Be (Poetry, Guernica Editions).
Richard Weiser is a poet, musician and playwright. His work has been published internationally in journals such as Acumen and 99 Pine Street and produced at The Toronto Fringe Festival. He's written ads for almost 20 years and recently won a Cannes Lion (advertising's version of the Oscar). Richard studied creative writing at York University with Don Coles and Robert Casto. He's written a biography of the Canadian painter Tom Thomson (unpublished) and is working on a novel set during the First Crusade.
Janet Youndahl has published essays in Writer's Digest, Malahat Review, and the Friends Journal. She is a voice professor at the University of Lethbrige in Alberta, and appears on more than a dozen recording on the RCA, Duetsch Mundi, BMG, Phillips and BIS labels, including the Grammy nominated Chants de l'extase. She has recently attended artist residences at the Banff Centre for the Arts and the American Academy in Rome.
