We’re Bringing on a Junior Editor!

It’s no secret that a TON of work goes into each issue, and as our community continues to grow, so too does the pile of work. What a great problem to have!

Recognizing that many hands make light work, we have slowly been adding to our team of volunteers and are very excited to be welcoming our youngest teammate yet!

Iris is a high school student with a strong interest in publishing, and what better way to learn than to be thrown into the thick of things?! She will be stepping onto the team as a Junior Editor, focusing on creative non-fiction and fiction pieces, and is very eager to glean what she can from some behind-the-scenes work in the world of magazines.

We invited her to introduce herself. Here’s what she had to say:

Iris Pena.jpg

Hello everyone!

My name is Iris Peña. I am seventeen years old and currently in my 3rd year of high school in Ontario. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Blank Spaces. I believe it is truly wonderful how Blank Spaces celebrates and honours the work of many talented Canadians.

I am looking to take journalism in University and I’m doing a co-op placement for journalism. I am the class journalist for my environmental science and outdoor ed course called GENESIS. I also wrote an article for my school newsletter.

I greatly enjoy writing and learning through it. I’m passionate about being creative and utilizing my creativity with many different things. Creativity lights up the soul and lifts spirits. It provides the world with multiple astonishing opportunities and discoveries.

Looking forward to this experience! I can’t wait to start working with Blank Spaces and focus on literary arts.

Take a moment and help us give Iris a warm welcome in the comments below!

If you would like to become involved in Blank Spaces, never hesitate to reach out. You never know what kind of role we might have for you!
