Joel Smith

Joel Smith, writer

Joel Smith grew up on a small prairie farm in Manitoba. He took a sabbatical from his engineering career to study philosophy, politics, and economics at McGill University. That same year, he was re-acquainted with his love of writing. He has since written short stories, three novels, and a non-fiction book. Cold Cuts is his first published short story. Joel continues to work and live in Winnipeg, where his wife and two boys keep him young through the glorious summers and the long hibernation of winter.

Cold Cuts Volume 9, Issue 4

A teacher’s confrontation with childhood cruelty—both witnessed and remembered—reveals the weight of shame and the fragile hope of redemption in Joel Smith’s story, Cold Cuts.
